Mexico City, Mexico

Aldaba Arte, Mexico city, is an art studio that doubles as an experimental artistic research lab. It offers a vast library, artist residency programs and educational structures; it also organizes exhibits and multidisciplinary cultural events related to contemporary art as well as coordinating artist publications.

Resident architect José Dávila realized a scale version of the building solely using the waste material generated during the recent restoration operated by Alter Taller de Arquitectura. Dávila's intention, by recycling material from the building which was on its way to being disposed of, was to return to the building a part of its essence.

As part of an experimental and creative lab, Aldaba Arte has prepared a number of residencies for visiting international artists who will join forces with mexican artists over a period of two months. With every residency program Aldaba Arte will designate a curator who will coordinate with the artists all aspects of the production and exposition of the works, as well as organizing activities to go alongside the project.
