Description
Caversham-based residencies and community-based programmes address the need for investment in the individual and community, and play a sustainable and important role in contributing towards the growth of the Arts. This is achieved through a unique combination of providing focused time for reflection, dialogue and interaction, with resources and expertise provided by the world-renowned Caversham Press facility.
Technical Information
The professional printmaking studio and facilities are of the highest international standards and are housed within an 1878 Wesleyan Methodist Chapel building.
Accommodation Information
CCAW operates from specially designed buildings providing comfortable accommodation in spacious, peaceful surroundings.
Paid by host
Public presentation expenses, Transport to and from the Durban airport and any other travel arrangements agreed to in writing, prior to the commencement of the residency. Working material, All print materials for the specified editions which are locally available and within the Caversham Budget. Accomodation and Food allowance within designated budget but excluding any alcohol, extraordinary dietary requirements and items of a personal nature. Artists are required to cook for themselves.
Location
The setting for the Caversham Centre is relatively isolated ad rural, being 1 hour and a half / 150 km from Durban, the major east coast port, and 20 minutes/ 15 km from the nearest town, Howick. To which participants are taken twice weekly to restock their provisions.
Application Criteria
The formal criteria applicable include: Artistic merit; How the artist would represent their country/ culture; Impact of the residency in the artist's career/work.
